Tyres, Wheels & Tracking

Tyres, wheels and tracking are what keep your car on the road. They also wear and get damaged, so they need keeping an eye on.

Driving around Liverpool means hitting potholes and kerbs, and your tyre tread wears down every time you drive. Over time, all of this leaves your wheels needing attention.

Wheels

There isn’t a lot on your wheels that can be serviced, but some important repairs may be needed if you hit a big pothole. We’ve seen wheels scratched, dented and even cracked from driving around the city. We can repair your wheels and bring them back to their former glory with alloy wheel refurbishment.

Tyres

Your tyres need your attention every time you go out on the road. To keep your car in its best condition, the tyres need to be properly inflated and above the minimum legal tread depth. If your tyres aren’t looked after, you could run into the following problems:

  • Higher fuel consumption: under-inflated or worn tyres increase drag on the road, so your engine needs more power to move the car.
  • Breaking the law: there’s a legal tread limit, and you could get 3 penalty points and a fine for each tyre that’s worn too far.
  • Your safety: a poorly maintained tyre can increase your braking distance and lead to accidents.

So what can you do? It’s simple: bring your car to us and we’ll inspect your tyres for wear and check the pressures.

New Tyre Sales

We don’t sell part-worn tyres, but we do have a full range of brand new tyres available. We can supply tyres for every make and model and fit them for free. When we fit your tyres you’ll also get free wheel balancing, which makes sure your wheels don’t wobble on the road. If your current tyre garage doesn’t balance your tyres, it’s time for a new one.

Wheel Tracking

Wheel tracking, also called wheel alignment, is the line your car follows as it drives. You might think it can’t change, but it does when you bump kerbs or hit potholes. Your car has adjustment points to keep the wheels pointing in the straight line they’re meant to.

When your tracking is out, it can seriously increase wear on your tyres. We’ve seen plenty of cases where the alignment was out and a driver had completely worn out a set of tyres, costing a lot of money. Tracking should always be done by professionals, as trying to do it yourself can make the problem worse.

To check and adjust your tracking we use specialist equipment. The car is raised and a laser guide shows us exactly where the wheels should be pointing. Without it, you’re effectively working blind.
