To keep your car on the road for a long time, you need to keep it serviced. A service every year is a must, and some owners choose to have one every six months.
Keeping your car serviced also helps it hold its value. If you’ve ever bought a second-hand car, you’ll have asked about its service history. When your car has a full history, the next owner can see it’s been well cared for. However well you look after it, it counts for much less without a record.
What is Changed on a Service?
Some items are changed at most service intervals. Others are replaced every two or four years, or based on mileage, depending on the manufacturer. Here’s a list of parts that can be changed during a service:
- Oil and oil filter
- Engine air filter
- Fuel filter
- Full vehicle check over
Every service we carry out follows the manufacturer’s specification. The manufacturer sets out what needs changing and when, and our mechanics print this out and use it as a checklist for your service. That means you get a main dealer service at local garage prices. Servicing prices depend on the make and model, but our services start from £89.00.

Cam Belt Service
Most cars on the road have a cam belt, which keeps the moving parts of your engine in sync. If it breaks, the internals can smash into each other, causing serious engine damage that very often means a new engine. Belts usually break because they haven’t been changed when the manufacturer recommends. Most manufacturers set the change at around 80,000 miles, but some need it at 40,000 and others can go as far as 140,000 miles.
Although the cam belt is a serviceable item, it isn’t included in our service prices. That’s because it can take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours to change, depending on your car, and it needs specialist tools and knowledge to do without damaging the engine.
