Car Window Stuck Down?

A window that won’t go back up leaves your car open to rain and thieves, so it’s worth getting it looked at quickly.

The usual causes are a failed window regulator (the mechanism that lifts the glass), a burnt-out motor, a faulty switch, or a broken wire in the rubber boot between the door and the body. We test each one so you’re not paying for parts you don’t need. If we can’t fix it straight away, we can usually secure the window shut until the part arrives.

Signs of a Window Problem

  • The window drops into the door or goes up crooked
  • A clicking or grinding noise but the glass doesn’t move
  • The window moves very slowly
  • It works from one switch but not the other
  • None of the windows work

Central Locking Not Working?

If one door won’t lock or unlock with the rest, it’s often a failed door lock actuator. If nothing responds to the key fob, start with the fob battery, as that’s the cheapest fix. We also look at wiring, fuses and the control module when the fault is harder to find.

Common questions

Try the switch on the driver’s door and the one on the window’s own door. If neither works, call us. We can usually secure the window to keep the car dry and safe until it’s repaired.

Usually a faulty lock actuator inside that door, or a broken wire where the cables run between the door and the body.

Replace the fob battery first. If it still doesn’t work, the fob may need reprogramming or there could be a fault with the car’s receiver. We can test both.

It depends on the car and whether the motor needs replacing too. We’ll diagnose it and give you a price first.
