Car Battery Keeps Going Flat?

A battery that keeps going flat isn’t always a bad battery. It could be the alternator not charging it, or something draining it while the car is parked.

Before we sell you anything we test the battery, the alternator’s charging output and the car’s current draw with everything switched off. That tells us whether you need a new battery, an alternator, or a fix for a fault that’s draining the battery overnight.

Signs Your Car Battery Is Failing

  • The engine turns over slowly, especially on cold mornings
  • Needing a jump start more than once
  • The battery warning light staying on
  • Electrics such as central locking or the radio acting up
  • The battery is more than five years old

Battery or Alternator? How to Tell

If the car starts fine after a jump but goes flat again a day or two later, the alternator or a drain is the likely cause. If the battery warning light comes on while you’re driving, or the lights dim and flicker, the alternator usually isn’t charging properly. Other signs include a whining noise from the engine bay and the car cutting out on the move.

Car Battery Replacement

We fit quality batteries matched to your car, including AGM and EFB batteries for vehicles with stop-start. Many modern cars also need the new battery registering to the car’s computer so it charges correctly, and we do that as part of the job.
